The World's Unsung Hero: Super-Mom

Today's post honours those Wondrous Women in our lives, Mothers.

They say, "behind every great man is a great woman."  Well, who greater than the woman who was there from the beginning?

Even in comic books, Moms are ever-present:

Hippolyta, queen of Themyscira, was one of the first single moms in comics, and her strong convictions fostered the most iconic woman in comics of all-time, princess Diana, Wonder Woman.

"Have you ever wondered what's off the island...?"

Peter Parker's Aunt May often acts as a guide for Peter, who was usually seeking guidance for his alter-ego, Spider-Man.

The love and loss of Bruce Wayne's mother (and father) put Bruce on his path towards becoming Batman.

Martha "Ma" Kent instilled in Clark his sense of morality, and the values of truth and justice - the things, above his god-like powers, that define Superman.

Rocket ship delivery beats the stork any day!

The fact is, Moms play an uber-important role in our lives, and are truly the unsung heroes - except for maybe one day a year.

So make this day count.  Pick up the phone, send a card.  Get her something nice (Fathers & sons, I saw a recent news report indicating that while most men feel Mom wants flowers, moms indicate they would prefer a day at the spa).  Want to do something original?  Make your own card.  No, put away the crayons, Kraft Dinner, and glitter. The main thing is, find a way to let Mom know just how special she is.  It's time to be the super hero Mom saw you as when you were young.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, MOM!
